Interview:

RITC: What inspired you to write this book?

Brent Olson: It's a good story, it says something that matters, and it's 98,000 words of thought and entertainment.

RITC: What messages or themes do you hope readers take away from your book?

Brent Olson: As a culture we put so much emphasis on domination, with twisted visions of what power is for.  As one character says in the climatic chapter, "The only reason we have strength is to protect the weak.

RITC: What other books have you written or what's your next writing project?

Brent Olson: I've published eight books.  Four collections of essays, a memoir, and three novels.  I have a syndicated column, Independently Speaking which has run for nearly 30 years

RITC: What advice would you give to new writers?

Brent Olson: Write a lot, read a lot, ask other people to read your work and listen to their advice.  And, most difficult, decide whether or not to listen to that advice

RITC: Who's your favorite writer and outside of your book, what other book would you recommend? and why?

Brent Olson: I enjoy Lois McMaster Bujold a lot, and I recommend anything she writes.  She knows how to invent characters and how to tell a story.
