Interview:

RITC: What inspired you to write this book?

Breakfield and Burkey: We are members of the Underground Authors, who created the town within the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles. Each author delivers one story a year in a given month. The stories are stand-alone, though we leverage elements of the town and use characters from other authors if they fit into our story. The series revolves around the goings-on in this small town where everyone is interested in each other’s business. Gossip and murder are trademarks of this thriving community. Every small town, like Magnolia Bluff, Texas, has dozens of different perspectives on life, love, and social interactions. Breakfield and Burkey entered the third season bringing The Ransom Enigma to life with our young couple, Jo and JJ. The town is a real place for our reader fans, and the characters are real people. We are delighted at the fabulous reception the series has received. It’s exciting to know we created something readers find a bit unique in the world of crime fiction.

RITC: What messages or themes do you hope readers take away from your book?

Breakfield and Burkey: We want readers to enjoy this story and fall in love with the characters. We hope readers will consider posting a review on their favorite places, such as Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub, and Barnes and Noble. We also invite readers to consider looking at the other books in the series.

We promise readers that if this is their first visit to Magnolia Bluff, they are in for a delightful treat. And if they are returning readers, you will find humor, suspense, and characters you will root for and hope get their comeuppance. Step into Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles today.

RITC: What other books have you written or what's your next writing project?

Breakfield and Burkey: We have an exciting future planned for our fictional tales. Today, readers can discover twelve novels from the Enigma Series, two in the Enigma Heirs trilogy, and one novella, Out of Poland, the prequel to the techno-thrillers. All of these are available in audiobook formats. We have three novels within the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles and a contemporary women’s fiction Trusted Friends and Lovers. We are currently writing the third in Enigma Heirs, Enigma Jewels, is

planned for release in early 2025.

RITC: What advice would you give to new writers?

Breakfield and Burkey: Keep practicing and get someone other than family or friends to review your work. Hooking up with a critique group or partner is also a good way to get honest feedback to continually improve your writing, whether it is fiction or non-fiction. We also recommend networking with other authors as a great way to get ideas on marketing your creations.

RITC: Who's your favorite writer and outside of your book, what other book would you recommend? and why?

Breakfield and Burkey: Breakfield’s favorite author would be Kevin J. Anderson. Anything he has written with Frank Herbert Jr. in the Dune series is highly recommended. Burkey’s favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. She frequently re-reads the trilogy and the Hobbit.

RITC: Is there a resource that you'd like to share or recommend for upcoming writers or book reviewers?

Breakfield and Burkey: Make certain to get support for crafting your SEO categories and keywords for publication:
